In this second part, we explore five more beautiful beaches, each with its own character, that you can easily reach with a rental car from Move. Every road trip on Madeira’s coastline will make your summer even more memorable.
1. Praia de São Tiago (Funchal) – History, Charm & Atlantic Waves
In Funchal’s Old Town, Praia de São Tiago is more than a place to swim it’s a piece of Madeira’s history.
It´s situated right next to the bright yellow São Tiago Fortress, the beach combines pebble shores with the lively city vibe. You can spend the morning visiting the fortress and art galleries, then cool off with a swim in the Atlantic.
The beach is free to enter, and while there’s no private parking, you’ll find several paid options close by, it’s also near many restaurants and cafés, perfect for lunch or a sunset drink after your swim. The view at sunset is especially beautiful when the fortress glows in the golden light.

2. Praia da Calheta – Golden Sands for the Perfect Family Day
Praia da Calheta is one of the few beaches in Madeira with soft golden sand, brought in to create a calm and welcoming vibe. This beach is located on the warm southwest coast, it’s a favorite for families and visitors looking for a peaceful day by the sea.
The bay is sheltered, so the waters are calm and perfect for swimming, paddleboarding, or enjoying the sun, there are both free and paid parking areas, as well as plenty of restaurants, cafés, and beach bars nearby.
You can also rent kayaks or take boat tours by the harbour, for a full day of relaxation with everything close by, this is one of the top beaches on the island.

3. Prainha do Caniçal – Black Sand & Hidden Beauty
On the east coast, Prainha do Caniçal is a small, quiet beach for those who like natural and uncrowded places. Surrounded by cliffs, this bay has soft black volcanic sand and clear water. The walk down to the beach is scenic, giving you the feeling of finding a secret spot on the island.
When heading there, keep in mind that it’s a secluded spot, so bringing your own snacks and water is essential.
There’s free parking available near the top of the cliff, and the short walk down rewards you with breathtaking views, this beautiful beach is perfect for a peaceful afternoon, sunbathing, or capturing stunning photos.

4. Porto Moniz Natural Pools – Volcanic Magic
Not your typical Madeira beach, but definitely a must-see: Porto Moniz Natural Pools. These pools were formed by lava and are filled with natural seawater, letting you enjoy the Atlantic safely while being surrounded by unique volcanic rock.
There is a small entry fee for the pool area, which has lifeguards, sunbathing terraces, showers, and changing rooms, also you can find paid parking nearby, and there are great restaurants where you can enjoy fresh seafood with a view.
Swimming here is a one-of-a-kind experience, perfect for families and those who want something different from the usual beach.

5. Praia da Ponta do Sol – The Island’s Sunset Capital
Praia da Ponta do Sol is famous not just for its beach but also for its sunsets, found in one of the sunniest towns on Madeira, this pebble beach is framed by colorful houses and a relaxed village atmosphere.
Access is free, and parking options are available, both paid and free so be sure to check the signs. It can get busy later in the day, so arriving early is a good idea. After your swim, grab a coffee or cocktail at a nearby bar and stay for the breathtaking sunset views, for photographers and romantics alike, this beach is an absolute must-visit.
