1. Seixal Natural Pools Poças das Lesmas– Lava Formations & Ocean Energy
Located on the north coast of Madeira, the Seixal Natural Pools are a magical place where black lava rock meets the power of the Atlantic.

2. Praia dos Reis Magos (Caniço) – Calm Waters & a Local Vibe
Located in Caniço de Baixo, Praia dos Reis Magos is a well-maintained beach popular with locals and tourists alike. It features a mix of pebbles and concrete sunbathing areas, with easy access to the sea and usually calm waters, making it ideal for swimming and snorkeling.
There’s free entry, paid parking nearby, and amenities like showers, cafés, and a promenade lined with palm trees. This beach is known for its friendly atmosphere, great accessibility, and proximity to resorts and restaurants ideal for a half-day break if you’re staying on the southeast coast of the island.
3. Praia do Faial – A Rocky Beach with Mountain Views
Tucked into the northeastern part of the island, Praia do Faial is a rugged pebble beach surrounded by steep green cliffs and mountain peaks.
It has a strong local vibe, often quieter than more central beaches, and is perfect for those who love raw, untouched landscapes.
Praia do Faial is free to access, with parking available close by. There’s also a nearby riverside picnic area and a viewpoint with panoramic views of the coast.

4. Praia da Ribeira Brava – Family-Friendly & Easy to Reach
Right in the heart of the Ribeira Brava village, this beach is easy to reach and perfect for a relaxed beach day. It has dark pebbles, calm waters, and is backed by a well-developed promenade full of cafés, snack bars, and palm trees.
It’s free to enter, with paid and free parking options around. Lifeguards are often on duty in summer, and you’ll find showers and changing rooms nearby.
Because it’s right in town, this beach is great for families, seniors, or travelers looking for convenience with a local feel. Grab a poncha or an ice cream and enjoy the sea breeze!
5. Praia do Porto Moniz (Free Beach Area) – Natural Beauty Without the Ticket
While Porto Moniz is best known for its famous paid natural pools, there is also a free beach swimming vulcanic pools nearby, open to the public and perfect for those who want to enjoy the Atlantic without paying an entry fee.
This beach has a mix of rocky areas and man-made platforms where you can sunbathe or take a dip. It’s right by the promenade and surrounded by restaurants, bars, and viewpoints.
Parking is available nearby (mostly paid), and although it’s not as structured as the pool complex, it still offers an amazing experience with incredible views of the cliffs and ocean spray. A great option if you’re on a budget or simply prefer a more natural setting.
